Spruce trees have
needles that are short, 1/2” - 1” long. The needles are
four-angled, prickly, stiff and sharp. The needles stick
out from around the twigs.
Colorado Spruce is a truly beautiful tree and is now in
greater demand for Christmas. Needle colors range from
dark green to powdery blue with needles that are 1” long
and are very sharp when touched at the tip of the
needles.
White Spruce is a valuable, native Wisconsin tree.
Because of the long fiber of the wood it is highly
prized for pulp. Its blue-green foliage is very
attractive and makes a good Christmas tree.
Black Spruce, also a native of Wisconsin, grows more
slowly than the White Spruce. It has telltale, short
dark hair on the ends of branches, which helps in
telling it apart from the White Spruce
